Helping Hands Across the Ocean is an international humanitarian organization, committed to helping the people of Haiti improve their lives and achieve lasting victory over poverty. HHAO’S mission is to empower the Haitian people through the betterment of their children.
At HHAO we believe that the most effective and efficient means of promoting self-sufficiency, productive, and a strong society in Haiti is through partnership with the Haitian people on education of their children.
Few Facts about Haiti
Haiti once referred to as The Pearl of the Antilles, forms part of the island of Hispaniola, is the first independent black nation in the world and second only to the United States of America to gain its independence in the Americas. Yet part of Haiti’s rich and proud history is the fact that it has been plagued by political violence and poor development for most of its history.
Education in Haiti
Currently, the education sector in Haiti lacks the quality and access necessary for sustained social and economic development. Despite improvements in enrollment and the commitment of the Haitian government to strengthening public education, challenges in funding, teacher training and access remain prevalent. These issues put a generation of Haitian youth at risk of not receiving the knowledge and basic skills necessary to succeed in the labor force.
